The dialogs used to create new users and view/edit existing users are the same, but the fields differ from one user role to another. The following points are common to all user roles.
* *A * If you don't know an address postcode, clicking the link under the _Postcode_ field will open the NZ Post Address Finder in a new browser window.
* *B * Existing passwords are not displayed when viewing a user's details. If you enter a new password in the password box, the existing password will be changed.* *C * The status box has the options and behaviour listed below.
* *Active* means the user will be able to immediately log in to the portal without verifying the account. This is not usually recommended if you're setting up an account for a new user.
* *Inactive* prevents the user from logging into the portal in future. Existing data within the portal is retained.* Setting a newly-created account to *Pending* results in an email being sent to the entered email address asking for the account to be verified. If you enter a password in the _Password_ field, this will be included in the email message. If you leave the password field empty (recommended), a strong temporary password will be created and sent instead.
* A *Coapplicant* is usually an applicant whose account was created as part of submitting a Project Grant. See below for more details. The coapplicant account can't be logged into, as it has no password, and wasn't created by the coapplicant herself.
From time to time a coapplicant will attempt to create a new applicant account on the portal. When this happens the coapplicant is told that the email address in question is already in use, and asked to contact a Cure Kids Administrator. If you receive an email from such a coapplicant, find them on the _List all users_ page, and change the account status to *Pending*. This will send out a verification request email with a random temporary password, enabling the coapplicant to log in as an applicant.
